about us
PetIdealist began with a simple, uncomfortable observation: the bond between a person and their animal is one of the most honest a human being has, and one of the least documented.
We write biographies for people. We keep journals, family histories, oral history projects, entire institutions built around the idea that a life is worth preserving properly. The animals who give us some of the purest, most unconditional presence we’ll ever know get almost none of that same care. A folder of unsorted photos is not a record of a life. It’s a record of moments we happened to catch.
the Gap
What we believe: the relationship between a person and their pet deserves the same seriousness we give to any other meaningful bond, documented as it happens, not reconstructed afterward in grief. We believe a pet’s personality, their small daily habits, the specific way they only ever did one particular thing- all of it is worth holding onto, not just the milestones that make it into a caption.
What we’re building:
PetIdealist exists in two halves. The writing here, in this Archive, makes the philosophical case for why this matters. The platform, at petidealist.ae, does the actual holding: building a living biography for a pet while their life is still unfolding, not after it’s ended.
We’re early. This publication has one essay so far, and the platform is young. But the belief underneath both is not new, and it isn’t going anywhere.
We think a life well-loved deserves to be well-remembered. That’s the whole idea.
